Student Services & Wellbeing

“Everything is a learning process. Anytime you fall over, it’s just teaching you to stand up the next time.” - Joel Edgerton

At BPS we believe that building respectful relationships relies on students having opportunities for social and emotional learning

Our aim is help children to build skills to stay physically and mentally strong and well. Confident and resilient students acknowledge their strengths and also know when to ask for help

Building resilience

Building resilience and the strategies required to succeed through life’s challenges, are inclusive to this ‘ready to learn’ strategy. In supporting academic, social, emotional and physical development, Bordertown Primary School includes a community approach aimed at being proactive around building, understanding, promoting and providing support for positive mental health.

  • Staff incorporate Berry Street Education, a philosophy which emphasises the importance of being grounded and centered.

  • We listen and collaborate to make impact through curriculum linked outcomes which help students navigate the pressures encountered throughout their schooling years.

  • Students are empowered with the skills to enable positive mental health, self-regulation and to develop the values to contribute positively in society.

  • Many of our staff have participated in and have completed the Mental Health First Aid training.

Student services

We have access to a number of services including two Wellbeing Practitioners from the Safer Families Program, close associations with MIND Australia, Smiles All Round and Support Services. Regular visits to school from these service providers support families.

Our staff actively teach the Child Protection Curriculum, Cyber Safety and Social and Emotional intelligence through our Good Start program including Play is the Way and MYTERN.

Students participate in the annual Bully Audit to identify areas of concern which are addressed in our active Anti Bully Policy.

Pastoral Care Workers make themselves accessible to staff and students, providing individual, group and class support to programs focused upon social and emotion wellbeing

Our student representative council, ‘Kids’ Voice’ includes two representatives from each class that meet regularly to discuss and implement projects within their school.

Our Chill Area was designed and is now run by our own Kids’ Voice team. This is a safe area for students to access during lunch time incorporating an area to read a book, play a board game or simply play in a safe and supported environment with friends.

Additional environments like our cubby building area, loose parts and nature play areas provide students with a vast selection of activities to connect our children with each other and their school.

Our breakfast program is open for business every Monday, Wednesday and Friday offering students a hot breakfast, milo fruit and juice. A popular weekly event for those needing added sustenance.

Bordertown Primary School delivers purposeful education to every student. Underpinning academic achievement is the focus upon positive wellbeing for every child. The development of student’s identity, growth mindset and independence facilitates a commitment to achieve academic growth.
